RIVERSIDE CENTRE ACTIVITIES
Centre and Outreach
Activities' are offered in the Riverside Centre and in other local venues.
Parents can take part in training to help them to improve their parenting
skills and to help them to gain confidence and skills and build their self
esteem. Groups include art and craft, parents dropins and mother &
toddler sessions. A variety of training opportunities are offered including
ESOL, basic skills in numeracy and literacy and first aid. Parents also receive support so they can be
involved in decision making around the development and delivery of services
that affect their families.
We recognise that all families need support from time to time.
Riverside staff work closly with other professionals to help families get the support that they need, when they need it. Parents are welcome to come along to Riverside to take part in activities, and to meet other parents; they can bring their children along to mix with others, and enjoy the many play and learning opportunities that are available. Parents who feel they need additional support can drop into the centre, and staff will help them to get the help and support they need. |

MIGRANT COMMUNITY PROJECT
The Migrant Families Community Inclusion Project is working closely with migrants in the West End of Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Our aim is to develop self sustainable communities and individuals that are capable of participating in, and contributing to an inclusive cohesive society. Our main mission is to promote the rights of migrants by supporting and strengthening the development of their communities, ensuring that access to services and opportunities are available thus establishing effective partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies.
We deliver services to individuals and communities in order to directly address issues of social exclusion for migrants in Newcastle. We promote access by migrants and their communities to their rights and entitlements which will improve their chances of integrating into mainstream social and economic life in Newcastle and the wider UK. Some of our activities include Roma Engage to Change, Esol, Roma Youth Engagement Project and many more. |

SURESTART
Riverside works collaboratively with other agencies in the locality to support families with children under 5 years of age. A range of activities are offered for parents and children to enjoy together, including play sessions, and conversation classes for those whose first language is not English. A range of training opportunities are also available for parents, so that they can gain skills needed towards getting paid work. There are opportunities for parents to meet other parents in groups, so they can support and learn from each other.
A crèche is usually available so that children can play and learn while their parents are attending training. A programme which outlines what’s on offer for parents and children is produced each term, and is available on this website and in the Carnegie Building, where most of the activities take place. |
